:: Dr. Lawrence W. Greer,
  
Senior Managing Partner

Dr. Greer began venture and private equity investing in 1986 following a 14 year period as a private dental practitioner in Birmingham, AL.  From 1986-1989 he served as a self-employed consultant assisting local venture projects with business plan preparation, strategic planning, sourcing of debt and equity financing and operational oversight. 
 
In 1989, he joined Dunn Investment Company as Director of Healthcare Investments.  In that role, Dr. Greer managed a portfolio of stocks in public healthcare companies and private equity investments specifically involving the healthcare industry.  In 1992, he was promoted to manager of Dunn's entire investment portfolio which included active oversight of as many as 17 private equity portfolio companies.  He was involved with direct equity investments, including an investment in an SBIC Fund, in the role of LP, as well as secured debt transactions of all types as appropriate for each portfolio company.  While at Dunn, he was elected non-executive Chairman of Southern BioSystems, Inc.  Serving in that role for three years, he actively directed the acquisition of that company by DURECT Corporation (NASDAQ: DRRX) in 2001.
 
In September 2002, Dr. Greer founded Greer Capital Advisors, LLC and directed the raise of the S.C.O.U.T. Healthcare Fund, LP as it General Partner.
 
He presently serves on the Advisory Committee of the New Virginia Capital Partners Fund, LP and the Investment Committee of the Whitecap Alabama Growth Fund I and II.  He serves as General Partner to the Birmingham Technology Fund, LLC which he raised in 2006.  That Fund specializes in providing equity as well as subordinated and bridge debt financing to technology commercialization companies in the region.  Dr. Greer also serves as Chairman of the Audit Committee of Comberland Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: CPIX), a company he participated in founding in 1999 and a portfolio company of the S.C.O.U.T. Fund.  Cumberland conducted an Initial Public Offering on August 11, 2009 representing the first such IPO in the pharmaceuticals industry in over two years. 
 
Dr. Greer also served as Chairman of the Audit Committee for the SouthTrust Bank Funds Board of Trustees (now Wells Fargo) for three years as well as holding board director seats for numerous portfolio companies.  He holds a B.S. from Tulane University, D.D.S. from Emory University and an M.B.A. from Emory University.
 
 

:: Jennifer E. King,

Jennifer King is a founding partner of Greer Capital with the firm since September 2002.  She previously served as Executive Director of the Biotechnology Association of Alabama and spent 5 years as a Project Development Director for the Metropolitan Development Board, a privately-funded local industry recruitment agency.  Prior to these two roles she worked in the City of Birmingham's Office of Economic Development.  Jennifer currently serves on the board of the Birmingham Venture Club. 
Jennifer holds an MPPM and BA from Birmingham-Southern College. 
 
 

::  Alan H. Dean

Mr. Dean brings to Greer Capital Advisors more than 20 years experience in all aspects of technology transfer, in both the non-profit and for-profit sectors.  Prior to joining GCA, Mr. Dean was Director of the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio's Office of Technology Transfer, where he played a prominent role in the formation of numerous successful technology companies, and in greatly elevating licensing productivity.  One of the defining and lucrative financial deals brought together the inventor of the original vascular stent, Dr. Julio Palmaz, the University, and Johnson & Johnson to further commercialize a new generation of stents and other implants.  Mr. Dean was also head of technology commercialization at Southern Research Institute, an institution known for its oncology drug discoveries, and led the team responsible for licensing Institute inventions and forming technology spin-offs.  He co-founded the drug-delivery company, Southern BioSystems, Inc., which was later acquired by a public company.  Mr. Dean has served in a director and advisory capacity on many corporate boards, a notable example being an advisor for GCA’s S.C.O.U.T. Fund.  He has had extensive experience and responsibility for financing the growth of technology companies, including private placements and industrial development bonds, and has served in all management capacities at one time or another for various start-ups.  Mr. Dean sits on the board of CardioSpectra, Inc., one of Scout Health Care Fund's portfolio companies as well as BioDtech, one of the Birmingham Technology Fund's portfolio companies.  Mr. Dean’s educational background includes an MBA from the UAB and a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Alabama.

Lawrence W. Greer Jr. joined Greer Capital in September of 2005 as a Legal Associate. Mr. Greer has a Bachelor of Arts in Managerial Economics from Hampden-SydneyCollege and a Juris Doctrate from the University of Alabama School of Law. He was admitted to the Alabama State Bar in October of 2005 and is member of The Birmingham Bar Association and Rotaract.
